OET now accepted for doctors seeking work in the UK and Ireland

Doctors wishing to work in the UK and Ireland can now use the Occupational English Test (OET) as proof of their English ability.

The General Medical Council and the Medical Council Ireland have both announced that they will accept the test for registration. Registration is essential to being able to work in the UK or Ireland.

his news follows last year’s announcement from the Nursing and Midwifery Council in the UK that they would accept OET for overseas nurses and midwives who need to prove their English language level. Devised in Australia in the 1980s, OET is designed for testing the English ability of healthcare professionals. It is now available in over 110 locations in more than 40 countries.
