Everything You Need to Know About GRE

WHAT IS GRE?

The Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) is a standardized test that is an admission requirement for many graduate schools in the United States and Canada. The GRE is owned and administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). The test was established in 1936 by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

Each year from 160 countries appear for the GRE General Test half a million candidates across 1,000 test centers. Over 1,200 business schools around the world accept GRE scores for graduate programs.

WHY IS GRE IMPORTANT?

1.GRE scores help you secure admission in desired Master’s or even Ph.D. programs in Top Universities globally

2.GRE scores also help you secure a merit-based funding/scholarship for your academic programs

3.Apart from the Universities offering STEM programs, 1,200+ business schools also accept GRE scores for top MBA programs

4.A good GRE score is considered positively by the Visa Officer during your visa interview

5.GRE scores help the admissions committee of the University or College assess your preparedness for grad school and your potential for academic success

6.These scores provide an easily quantifiable ground to the admissions committees to compare your applications with that of other applicants

7.GRE scores help you in balancing your candidature if you have a low undergrad GPA or other weak academic aspects in your application

Types of GRE:

1) GRE Subject Tests

2) GRE General Test

GRE General Test is for Graduate and Professional Schools, including STEM, Healthcare, Business, and Law schools, eventually providing more opportunities for success to the aspiring graduates.

GRE General Test will help a student show his best. Also, the GRE General Test is the only admissions test that allows students to skip questions within a section, go back, and change answers.

Test takers can also choose questions that they want to answer first within a section.

GRE General Test at Home

The GRE General Test at Home option is available everywhere, where the GRE General Test is normally available, except Mainland China and Iran. The ability to register for the At Home Test is based on the country’s name that a student enters in his ETS account. If the country’s name matches the country where the test is available, the student will see the “Test at Home” option as he begins registration.

GRE GENERAL TEST CONTENT

The GRE General Test measures the candidate’s Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Critical Thinking, and Analytical Writing skills – skills that have been developed over a long period of time and are not related to a specific field of study but are comprehensively important.

The GRE General Test is a computer-delivered test that features question types that closely reflect the kind of thinking that a student will do – and the skills that he needs to succeed in today’s demanding graduate school programs, including STEM, Healthcare, Business, and Law.

The test-taker friendly design lets him skip questions within a section, go back and change answers, and have the flexibility to choose which questions within a section he wants to answer first.

GRE General Test Structure

1 An unidentified/unscored section that does not count towards a student’s score may be included and

may appear in any order after the Analytical Writing section. Questions in the unscored section are being tried out either for possible use in future tests or to ensure that scores on new editions of the test are comparable to scores from earlier editions.

2 An identified research section that does not count towards a student’s score may be included in the place of the unscored section. The research section will always appear at the end of the test. Questions in this section are included for ETS research purposes.

The Analytical Writing section will always be first. The Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and unidentified/unscored sections may appear in any order; therefore, a student should treat each section as if it counts towards the final score.
